US President Donald Trump firmly addressed and dismissed recent speculation surrounding his health during his appearance from the Oval Office on Tuesday. His remarks came in response to growing rumours that had circulated online in recent weeks, including false claims of his death and questions about his physical condition.

The speculation gained momentum after Trump had not been seen in public for more than two weeks, a rare occurrence that fuelled conspiracy theories. These rumours were further amplified on social media platforms, with users pointing to Trump’s lack of scheduled public events and visible bruises on his hands as supposed signs of deteriorating health.

In his remarks, Trump sought to put the rumours to rest. “I didn’t hear that one — that’s pretty serious. Well, it’s fake news,” he said, referencing reports of his alleged death. He added that while he had not initially seen the claims himself, they were brought to his attention by others.

“I have heard. It’s sort of crazy, but last week, I did numerous news conferences, all successful,” Trump continued. “They went very well, like this is going very well. And then I didn’t do any for two days, and they said there must be something wrong with him.”

Trump also took the opportunity to draw a contrast with his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, criticising Biden’s limited public appearances during his term. “You wouldn’t see him. And nobody ever said there was ever anything wrong with him. And we know he wasn’t in the greatest of shape,” said Trump, who turned 79 this year.

Prior to his Oval Office appearance, Trump had already pushed back against the rumours in a post on Truth Social dated August 31, where he wrote, “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE.” His Vice President, JD Vance, echoed those sentiments in an interview with USA Today on August 29, stating, “The president is in incredibly good health. I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people.”

The rumours partly stemmed from a perceived lack of public activity over the weekend, a gap in the President’s schedule that raised eyebrows in the current political climate. Additionally, observers noted bruising on the back of Trump’s right hand in recent months, with a smaller mark appearing on his left hand last weekend, sparking further speculation.
