Prince Harry-Meghan Markle’s Frogmore Cottage to revert to original design

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s EUR 2.4 million construction at Frogmore Cottage to be undone - Report

Frogmore Cottage, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s gift to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, is reportedly going to undergo a lot of construction. Recent reports have cited that there are plans to develop the home and revert it to its original state as two semi-connected homes. However, the monetary funding behind the project is proving to be a hassle. Here’s what we know about the matter.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Frogmore Cottage to undergo expensive construction

As per a recent report shared by The Sun, Frogmore Cottage is possibly going to revert to its original design; however, the project is still under development, and the costs are proving to be an issue. The constructions that were done on the house cost EUR 2.4 million; however, to undo that, a lot of money will go into the project. As of right now, no construction work has started, and the planning is underway on how to proceed with the project, which is still under development. After it was gifted to Prince Harry and Markle, over the course of 12 months, the property was turned into what it is right now. It was also reported that a lot of things in the interior design were funded by the couple themselves.

What kind of work was done on Frogmore Cottage

Originally, when the late Queen gifted the property to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it consisted of two properties that were interconnected. However, it was revealed that it underwent a complete transformation worth EUR 2.4 million, which included a lot of amenities being added, along with the two homes being transformed into one single property. The electrical wiring of the house was completely redone from scratch, and new fittings of new gas and water supply systems were also introduced in the house. Other amenities that were installed during the construction included a yoga studio, new ceiling beams, and floor joists, among many other things.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor allegedly rejected the suggestion of living at Frogmore Cottage

The report also cited that when Windsor was suggested to move into the property amid his discussions about leaving the Royal Lodge, he outright refused. The report stated, “Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it. It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.”The property has remained empty since 2023, after King Charles evicted Prince Harry a while after he published his memoir, ‘Spare.’ The house is managed under the Sovereign Grant because of the Frogmore House Act 1841.
