Maruti Suzuki India reported a 6 per cent year-on-year decline in vehicle production in August 2025, as the country’s largest carmaker aligned output with market demand amid weak consumer sentiment.

According to a regulatory filing, the company rolled out 1,58,202 units from its manufacturing plants last month, compared to 1,68,953 units in August 2024.

Production of entry-level models such as Alto and S-Presso fell 11 per cent to 9,485 units, while compact cars including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire and Swift saw a marginal rise at 75,923 units, against 73,148 units a year earlier. The mid-sized sedan Ciaz was not produced in August, after 1,651 units were manufactured in the same month last year.

Output of utility vehicles — comprising Brezza, Ertiga and Fronx — slipped 15 per cent to 58,587 units from 68,560 units a year ago. Production of the Eeco van fell slightly to 11,243 units, while Super Carry LCV output dropped to 2,964 units from 3,171 units last year.

The dip in factory output mirrored a slowdown in sales. On Monday, Maruti Suzuki reported an 8 per cent fall in passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers in August. Industry-wide, leading automakers posted lower shipments last month, as customers deferred purchases in anticipation of possible price cuts under the proposed new GST framework.
