Indian-origin woman killed at supermarket in Virginia; shooter had no connection with her, was later found dead

Indian-origin woman was shot dead at a convenience store in Virginia, US.

A 45-year-old Indian woman was shot and killed at the supermarket in Virginia where she had been working for years. The killing of Meghnaben Patel in the morning of May 23, who was originally from India’s Gujarat, was caught on CCTV inside the store. In the video, the attacker with his face covered could be seen approaching the counter where Meghnaben Patel was working. After a short while, the man put his hands in his pockets and pulled out a gun, and shot her. The shooter then scattered some items around the store as he fired multiple shots and fled.Local reports from Virginia reported a deadly shooting at Fat Philly’s convenience store, where a female clerk was shot dead, though the reports did not identify the victim. They said the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between a stepfather and a stepson and had nothing to do with the convenience store or the clerk who was shot dead. Police received a call at about 8.13 am about a domestic dispute and went to the 3100 block of Blackwood Avenue, which is off Sewells Point Road in the Greenwood section of the city. Reports indicated a man and his stepfather were arguing. The younger man was leaving the house when he turned back and fired a shot into the house. When officers arrived, they found the 45-year-old stepfather with a non-fatal gunshot wound. He went to the hospital to receive treatment.About 20 minutes later, the gunman came to the convenience store, which is about a 20-minute walk or a five-minute drive from the initial crime scene. The convenience store was mostly empty, and the clerk was at the counter. After a brief conversation, as it seemed from the surveillance footage, the gunman started firing. Police then received a report of a car left running in the road at an unidentified location. When officers arrived, they found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, from which he died. The police said they were not looking for any additional suspects, but the investigation was on.
