‘Lifelong Hindu pretending to be Christian’: Laura Loomer criticises Tulsi Gabbard

'Lifelong Hindu pretending to be Christian': Laura Loomer criticises Tulsi Gabbard over Bible verse post

A social media clash erupted between far-right activist Laura Loomer and former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard after Loomer accused Gabbard of “pretending to be a Christian” over a Bible verse shared online. The controversy began after Gabbard posted a verse from the Bible on X, writing: “But my eyes are toward you, O God, my Lord; in you I seek refuge – Psalm 141:8”.Loomer reacted to the post and questioned Gabbard’s religious identity in an online rant.“It’s really interesting how Tulsi Gabbard pretends to be a Christian. She did this at Charlie Kirk’s memorial too, if you recall,” Loomer wrote on X.“Tulsi is a lifelong Hindu. Yet nobody seems to know that. She should embrace it,” Loomer added. Loomer also shared a screenshot from Gabbard’s YouTube channel showing highlights from her Hindu Vedic wedding ceremony. The video description read: “Here are some highlights from Tulsi’s beautiful Hindu Vedic wedding on April 9, including walking down the aisle and a fire ceremony which ended with a lively yoga kirtan.” Gabbard follows Hinduism and is recognised as the first Hindu member of the US Congress. She was raised in a multicultural family with Hindu spiritual influences. She has often spoken publicly about how Hindu teachings shaped her life and politics. She took her congressional oath on the Bhagavad Gita and has frequently discussed concepts such as karma, selfless service, spirituality and meditation during political campaigns and interviews.Meanwhile, Loomer is known for her hardline far-right activism and support for Christian nationalist, MAGA politics in the US. Over the years, she has drawn criticism for inflammatory remarks about Islam and immigration. She has previously described Islam as a “cancer” and supported bans on Muslim immigration, comments that led to backlash and temporary bans from major social media platforms. Loomer has also faced criticism over remarks about Indians and the H-1B visa programme. She argued that foreign workers on H-1B visas undercut American workers by accepting lower salaries.During a visit to India earlier this year, Loomer apologised for some of the remarks but continued to oppose the visa system.
