An Ola taxi driver from Himachal Pradesh, who went missing from Nayagaon in Mohali, adjacent to Chandigarh, has been murdered. The Punjab Police have arrested three terrorists in connection with this case.

Anil Kumar, 27, originally from Jogindernagar in Mandi, resided in Nayagaon and drove a cab in the Tricity area. After his body was discovered near the Mohali airport, the police have registered a case regarding his kidnapping and murder. This issue was raised by MLA Prakash Rana in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Monday.

According to the information received, the Mohali Police uncovered a terrorist module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and arrested three individuals from Jammu and Kashmir. They were apprehended near Amritsar.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the preliminary investigation revealed that the three individuals had hired a cab from Kharar in Mohali, after which Anil Kumar’s mobile phone was switched off. Considering the seriousness of the matter, multiple police teams were formed, leading to the arrest of the three accused in Amritsar.

The police have recovered the deceased’s taxi and the .32 bore pistol used in the crime. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to shooting the driver after an altercation and later disposing of the body in the Mohali area. An intensive search operation is underway to locate the bodies. Among the accused, Sahil Bashir is wanted in a case under the UAPA and Arms Act registered at Kalamabad police station in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir. His brother, Aijaz Ahmad, was earlier arrested with a cache of arms and materials linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed. Both have been identified as overground workers (OGWs) of Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Anil Kumar went missing on August 29, and despite extensive searches, police could not locate him. His Swift Dzire car was spotted in Ludhiana, with CCTV footage obtained by News18. His body was later found near Mohali airport.

BJP MLA from Joginder Nagar, Prakash Rana, raised the issue during the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, stating that Anil Kumar from village Raktal of Panchayat Bhagaid had been missing since August 29, and no case was registered until August 31.

Rana mentioned that Anil Kumar last spoke to his wife on the phone at 10 pm on Friday, saying he was going to the railway station. Rana also stated that there was no trace of his car and he had spoken to the SHO about it.

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu noted that Anil Kumar’s family had not contacted him, but the DGP of Himachal had spoken to the DGP of Punjab, and further details would emerge in due course.
