Esha couldn’t wear ‘shorts’ after marrying Bharat

Esha Deol couldn’t wear ‘shorts’ or ‘ganjis’ at home after marrying Bharat Takhtani: ‘Once I began living with his family…’

Esha Deol and her ex-husband Bharat Takhtani’s marriage has recently grabbed attention after Bharat shared a picture with entrepreneur Meghna Lakhani, signalling a new chapter in his life. Esha, who married Bharat in a lavish 2012 wedding, announced their separation last year after 11 years of marriage.

Esha faced surprising cultural shifts in married life

In her 2020 book ‘Amma Mia’, Esha opened up about the cultural adjustments she had to make. As quoted by News18, she said, “Of course, once I began living with his family, I couldn’t roam around the house in my shorts and ganjis like I used to.” For someone used to comfort and freedom at home, this was a shock.

Despite these new rules around clothing, Esha appreciated the care and attention from her in-laws. She recalled, praising her mother-in-law, “She never insisted that I enter the kitchen or do any of the orthodox things she had been made to do as a bahu (daughter-in-law).” Though her clothing choices were limited, Esha felt loved and pampered in her new home.

Esha Deol’s marriage lasted more than a decade

After 11 years together, Esha and Bharat announced their separation in 2024. Though they did not publicly reveal the reasons, their joint statement emphasised that the decision was “mutually and amicably” taken. They added, “Through this shift in our lives, the best interests and welfare of our two children is and will be of utmost importance to us. We’d appreciate our privacy is respected.”

They focused on children after separation announcement

The couple shares two daughters, Radhya and Miraya. Even after parting ways, Esha and Bharat prioritise their children’s well-being. Esha has largely kept her personal life private, while Bharat explores companionship with Meghna, Esha focuses on her daughters and personal growth. Both are committed to co-parenting for their children. Go to Source
