A powerful earthquake struck the eastern region of Afghanistan near Jalalabad, causing massive destruction and loss of life. The quake, which hit just past midnight, had a depth of approximately 10 kilometers and its epicenter was located about 27 kilometers from Jalalabad city. Tragically, more than 1,000 people have died, and over 2,500 have been injured due to the collapse of many mud and stone houses. The tremors were felt not only in Afghanistan but also in parts of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces. Even several cities in India reported mild shaking from the earthquake. Rescue efforts are underway, but the scale of devastation is alarming, as seen in the images coming from the affected areas. The region faces a challenging recovery as survivors seek shelter and aid in the aftermath of this natural disaster.
