Tamil film producer K Rajan dies by suicide at the age of 85 in Chennai

The Tamil film industry has been left shocked by the death of veteran producer K Rajan, who was widely known for his outspoken speeches and controversial remarks at cinema-related events. The 85-year-old allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the Adyar river.According to a report by Tamil OneIndia, K Rajan leapt into the river from the Adyar bridge in Chennai. Fire and rescue personnel later recovered his body and sent it to a hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.A prominent figure in Tamil cinema, K Rajan frequently spoke to YouTube channels and media outlets about the issues affecting the film industry. His sudden death has created grief and disbelief among members of the cinema fraternity.K Rajan had been actively associated with Tamil cinema since the 1980s. He began his journey as a producer with Suresh-starrer Brammacharigal in 1983. Through his banner Ganesh Cine Arts, he went on to produce several films and also directed movies including Unarchigal, featuring Abbas and Kunal.Apart from filmmaking, he also played an influential role in the film trade sector. In 2000, he served as the president of the Chennai Film Distributors Association. His son, Prabhukanth, also entered the Tamil film industry as an actor.K Rajan was especially known for his blunt and fearless speeches at audio launches and public events. He often addressed topics such as the struggles faced by Tamil cinema, producers’ financial losses, the soaring salaries of actors, and irregularities within the industry. His candid opinions regularly made headlines.The tragic death of such a senior figure at the age of 85 has sparked widespread discussion and sorrow within the film industry. Several members of the cinema fraternity have expressed their condolences following his demise.
