Amaal on family rift with Anu Malik

Amaal Mallik on family rift with Anu Malik: 'They wouldn’t even acknowledge us'

Music composer Amaal Mallik, has carved his own path in Bollywood over the past decade. The star who set tongues wagging after revealing sensitive details about his family dynamics, particularly the strained relationship between his father Daboo Malik and uncle, veteran composer Anu Malik. This time around, he got candid during a conversation with fellow Bigg Boss 19 contestants Zeishan Quadri and Baseer Ali. Amaal reflected on how success and ambition once created emotional distance within their family.

Amaal says Anu was always ambitious

Amaal recalled that in the early years, when his uncle Anu had firmly established himself in the industry, the relationship between the two families grew tense. He revealed that at family gatherings or industry events, Anu and his children would not just keep their distance, but would go as far as to avoid even acknowledging Daboo Malik’s family. “He was always ambitious, like a hungry lion chasing his goals,” Amaal said, stressing that while he respects his uncle’s drive, the emotional fallout of this professional gap left a mark on their generation. While Daboo and Anu remain in touch, Amaal admitted that his cousins have grown apart and share no real connection today.

Anu Malik’s response

However, it was only a few weeks ago when Anu Malik offered a completely different perspective when asked about his nephews. In a conversation with Instant Bollywood, he dismissed the idea of estrangement and instead showered love on his brothers and family. “Daboo Malik aur Abu Malik sirf mere bhai nahi, mere jigar ke tukde hai. Aur unke bachche hamari jaan hai (“Daboo Malik and Abu Malik are not just my brothers, they are pieces of my heart. And their children are our life),” he said, adding that any perception of anger is simply a family trait. “Gussa mohabbat ka hota hai. Hum ek the, ek hai, aur ek rahenge (anger comes out of love. We were one, we are one, and we will always remain one),” he explained.Anu concluded by saying that for him, what appears to be anger is simply another way of showing love and he even referred to it as a “Malik trait.”
