The discovery quickly went viral, with many viewers expressing alarm over the sheer number of eggs and the possibility of dozens of new predators entering the Everglades ecosystem. Wildlife experts say the find is another reminder of how deeply the invasive species has established itself in South Florida and how difficult it has become to control its spread across one of America’s most important wetlands.

Burmese python is native to Southeast Asia and is considered one of the most destructive invasive predators in the Everglades.
