What! 'Karuppu' release delay: Unauthorized screenings trigger concern for Suriya and Trisha Krishnan film; Makers issue piracy warning

FB

‘Karuppu’, directed by R. J. Balaji and starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, ran into unexpected trouble on its release day. The much-awaited action drama was originally scheduled for a wide theatrical rollout, including special 9 AM shows across Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government had already granted permission for the early screenings. However several theatres suddenly cancelled or removed the morning and the following shows.

Unauthorized screenings for ‘Karuppu’ add to concerns

As the release uncertainty continued, reports came out that the film was screened in Mumbai, Pune, and Varanasi through Qube Cinema without formal approval from the producer. These unintended screenings created additional complications for the team. Producer S. R. Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures later met representatives of the Producers Council to discuss the issue. As reported by India TV news, during a press interaction, it was also revealed that the film had been mounted on a reported budget of Rs 140 crore. The scale of the investment has made the release challenges even more significant.

‘Karuppu’ makers issue strong anti-piracy warning

In response to the situation, Dream Warrior Pictures and S. R. Prabhu shared a joint Instagram post carrying a detailed legal notice. The statement read, “I am the legal counsel for Dream Warrior Pictures, the Production House of the Tamil feature film “Karuppu” and I issue this Public Notice under instructions from and on behalf of my cilent. My client is the Producer and copyright owner of the film Karuppu, a high-budget feature film starring Actor Suriya, Trishna Krishnan and others, directed by R.J Balaji and with music composed by Sai Abhyankkar and the film is produced with investments running into several hundreds of crores. The film carries substantial theatrical, satellite, OTT, overseas and commercial value and was scheduled for a grand worldwide theatrical release across more than 20 countries and approximately 3,000 screens worldwide.”Note added, “The general public is therefore strictly cautioned and advised not to download, receive, access, store, circulate, forward, exhibit or share any unauthorized content relating to the film Karuppu in any form whatsoever. Any person found involved in such activities hereafter shall face immediate legal action including civil and criminal proceedings before the appropriate authorities and courts, entirely at their own risk as to costs and consequences.”

Reason for ‘Karuppu’ delay

When ETimes contacted industry sources, Ruban Mathivanan of GK Cinemas said, “Financial issues, and no idea on the start.” His statement confirmed the core reason behind the delay.’Karuppu’ features Suriya in a powerful dual-shaded role linked to justice and the folk deity Karuppasamy. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, marking her reunion with Suriya after several years. Go to Source
