'James Bond' auditions officially begin, Oscar-nominated casting director tapped to find next 007

The search for the next James Bond has officially begun. At a time when various news reports have been throwing up different actors as the front runners to play bond, Amazon MGM Studios has officially started auditioning actors for the iconic role of 007 in recent weeks, states a report in Variety. The film will now mark the beginning of a new era for the long-running spy franchise following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in the 2021 film ‘No Time to Die’.The studio has reportedly tapped Oscar-nominated casting director Nina Gold to help find the next actor who can play the famed British spy.“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement to Variety. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”Even before auditions officially began, speculation surrounding the next Bond has dominated social media timelines. Actors including Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and many others have all been rumoured to be in contention for the coveted role. While Gold has not publicly commented on her involvement, the report states that the production confirmed she has joined the project. The casting director is widely recognised for her work on major franchises and critically acclaimed productions, including ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Crown’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, ‘Les Misérables’, ‘The Martian’ and ‘Conclave’. In 2025, Gold received an Oscar nomination for her work on ‘Hamnet’ during the first year the Academy introduced a category for casting.Amid chatter about the actor cast as the next James Bond, Amazon MGM’s head of film Courtenay Valenti briefly addressed the studio’s approach to the franchise’s future while making an appearance at CinemaCon. “We’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect,” Valenti said. “It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”Debbie McWilliams previously worked on films including ‘The Living Daylights’, ‘GoldenEye’ and ‘Casino Royale’, helping cast Bond actors such as Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton and Craig. The upcoming Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, best known for helming the blockbuster ‘Dune’ franchise.
