BIG UPDATE: PM Modi Calls for Spending Cut, Govt Plans Major Cost Control in Cabinet Meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly urged a nationwide focus on reducing unnecessary expenditure and promoting financial discipline, signaling a broader policy push aimed at curbing government and public sector spending. The move comes ahead of a high-level Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, where key discussions are expected on cutting administrative costs, reducing fuel consumption, and eliminating non-essential government expenses. According to sources, the upcoming Cabinet meeting will focus on strategies to optimize government spending and improve economic efficiency. The agenda includes reviewing fuel usage across departments, minimizing wastage in official operations, and exploring long-term measures to strengthen fiscal discipline. Officials indicate that the government is particularly concerned about rising fuel import bills and its impact on the national economy. Reports also suggest that the Prime Minister has already initiated symbolic steps to set an example. These include reducing the number of vehicles in his official convoy and promoting the use of electric vehicles within official fleets. Similar steps are reportedly being adopted by senior ministers and top officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah, who has also reduced his convoy size as part of the initiative. The government is also encouraging citizens to adopt cost-saving habits such as reducing unnecessary consumption of fuel, avoiding wasteful spending, and supporting energy conservation efforts. Officials describe this as part of a broader national efficiency drive aimed at strengthening economic stability. Sources further indicate that electric vehicles may be gradually introduced into official convoys, although immediate large-scale procurement is unlikely as the focus remains on reducing new expenditures. The Cabinet meeting is expected to provide clearer policy directions and possibly introduce structured guidelines for expenditure control across ministries. This development highlights a coordinated effort by the government to set an example at the highest levels while encouraging citizens and institutions to adopt more sustainable and cost-conscious practices.
