Hayden Panettiere opened up like never before as she looked back at some of her most painful and traumatic experiences during her budding Hollywood career.

The ‘Heroes’ actress, in the latest episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast, ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’, the now 36-year-old, discussed a chapter from her upcoming memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she recounts being let down by a woman she considered a ‘friend’. In an excerpt from the podcast that has now gone viral, Jay asks Hayden about “a moment in your career where a friend of yours takes you onto a boat. You’re led to a room which has an older man in it and then basically told to perform sexual acts.”Recalling the incident, Panettiere admitted that even though she was 18 at the time, she explained, “I felt like I could make healthy decisions, safe decisions, I wasn’t capable of being fully aware of what was going on around me.”

Narrating the incident, which allegedly took place on a boat, she said, her “perspective completely shifted” once she realized she was “in danger.” However, by the time, she said, “I was quite literally out to sea.”According to Panettiere, “It was led by somebody that I had grown to trust and see as a protector and somebody who had my back,” she shared. The actress recalled that she was escorted downstairs into a “very small room,” where she says she says, the woman “physically put me in the bed next to this undressed man who was very famous.”

Without taking any names, she added that the man in question, appeared to behave “like this was just an average day for him.””I became ferocious,” she recalled. “I was like, ‘This is not happening'”She revealed that while “There was no jumping off and swimming away,” she did flee the room and attempted to hide elsewhere on the boat. She went on to add, “There was nobody who was going to be empathetic to my situation. I realized that this was nothing new to them.”

Also during their conversation, Hayden detailed the emotional impact of feeling betrayed by someone she trusted. “When you really find somebody that you trust, you hold on to them for dear life and you feel so lucky,” she said. “So to be betrayed like that is just an awful feeling.”During the chat, the actress also got brutally honest as she opened up about her estranged relationship with her mom, her addiction, losing custody of her daughter and more.
