Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a major appeal to citizens amid rising tensions in the Middle East and the growing global energy crisis. He said international supply chains have been affected and fuel prices across the world have increased sharply, putting pressure on India’s foreign currency reserves. To deal with the situation, Modi urged people to minimize the use of petrol and diesel by using public transport, metro services, electric vehicles, and car pooling. He also encouraged companies to promote work-from-home and virtual meetings to reduce fuel consumption. The Prime Minister advised citizens to avoid foreign vacations for one year and, if possible, postpone weddings. He further appealed to people not to buy gold for a year in order to save foreign exchange reserves. Modi also called for reducing the use of cooking oil and chemical fertilizers while promoting natural farming and indigenous products. He stressed that adopting swadeshi goods and responsible consumption is essential for making India stronger and more self-reliant during the global crisis.
