‘Felt like NONSENSE,’ says Neetu Kapoor on exploring therapy

'It felt like NONSENSE'; Neetu Kapoor on exploring therapy after Rishi Kapoor's passing

Neetu Kapoor has sparked conversation after candidly revealing that she does not believe in therapy and that after the death of her husband Rishi Kapoor in 2020, close friendships and returning to work did far more for her healing than any session on a therapist’s couch. The veteran actress was characteristically direct about her personal philosophy on grief and mental health support.

Neetu Kapoor says she doesn’t believe in therapy

Speaking on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast ‘All About Her’, Neetu Kapoor did not mince words when sharing her view on professional therapy. “I don’t believe in therapists, honestly. I believe in friends. You should have four or five close friends with whom you can really talk things out,” she said, making clear that human connection, not clinical intervention, is what she turns to in difficult times.

Neetu Kapoor opens up about what happened when she did try therapy

Despite her reservations, Neetu Kapoor revealed she did briefly explore therapy following Rishi Kapoor’s passing, at the urging of those around her. The experience, however, only reinforced her skepticism. She said, “When Rishi passed away, people told me to go to a therapist. I was very low and I did speak to one, but I kept asking myself, ‘What am I doing here?’ Till I am not mentally strong myself, what can therapy do? They tell you to meditate, count numbers, do this and that. .. for me, it felt like nonsense. You have to give yourself time. You have to decide when you want to become strong and move on.”

Neetu Kapoor is back on screen in ‘Daadi Ki Shaadi’

On the professional front, Neetu Kapoor is currently winning praise for her performance in ‘Daadi Ki Shaadi’, which also stars Kapil Sharma, Sadia Khateeb, R Sarathkumar, and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, and has been receiving positive reviews since its release. The movie arrived in cinemas on May 8, 2026. Go to Source
