Taylor Swift’s lawyers comment about trademark lawsuit

Taylor Swift’s trademark lawsuit: Singer’s lawyers fire back at plaintiff, says 'that comparison is absurd’

Taylor Swift has had her fair share of dealing with lawsuits and legal complaints over the years. This time around, an ex-showgirl, Maren Flagg, filed a complaint against her, alleging that there were a lot of similarities between the ‘Opalite’ singer’s latest album title and her trademarked phrase from 2015. In a recent update, the singer’s lawyers have called the claims untrue and “absurd.”

Taylor Swift’s lawyers refute claims made by Maren Flagg

Calling the allegations “absurd”, as per Variety reports, Taylor Swift’s lawyers cited that any of the claims made by Flagg were unfounded. This comment comes after the former Las Vegas showgirl filed for an injunction against the singer. If granted, it would bar Swift from using the ‘Life Of A Showgirl’ label until further notice altogether.A statement from the report further read, “This motion, just like Maren Flagg’s lawsuit, should never have been filed. It is simply Ms. Flagg’s latest attempt to use Taylor Swift’s name and intellectual property to prop up her brand.” They added that the plaintiff (Flagg) is attempting to “broadly lump” her cabaret show with the ‘Bad Blood’ and her album. “That comparison is absurd,” they concluded, citing that there is little space for confusion between the singer’s chart-topping album and the plaintiff’s cabaret appearances.

Taylor Swift’s lawyers request judge reconsider the request

Beyond all of this, her lawyers have also asked the judge overseeing their case to consider why the plaintiff filed the complaint 8 months after ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ was released. Another statement read, “Prior to the album announcement, plaintiff had never used ‘the life of a showgirl’ in her social media promotion. Following the announcement, plaintiff used the phrase or posted generally about Ms. Swift or the album over 40 times on her branded Instagram and TikTok accounts.”

About Maren Flagg’s lawsuit against Taylor Swift

Showgirl Maren Flagg, who performs and goes by Maren Wade, filed the trademark lawsuit in March earlier this year. The case was filed over the title of Swift’s latest album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ at the United States District Court in California. The trademark lawsuit is centered around how Wade’s trademarked phrase, which reads “Confessions of a Showgirl”, and Swift’s album name ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ could cause issues and confusion between the services provided. On top of that, her complaint also read that the album title and her phrase both “share the same structure, the same dominant phrase, and the same overall commercial impression. Both are used in overlapping markets and are directed at the same consumers.”Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
