The government cracked down on Austrian economist Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn, who called for “dismantling India”, and blocked his X account in the country.

Jahn had dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Russia’s man” and advocated for Khalistan.

A screengrab of his X post that went viral online showed a controversial map of India, in which most Indian territories were shown as part of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and “Khalistan”.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology took up the issue with X and asked the social media platform to block its access in India. The Elon Musk-led American social media giant withheld the account in the country after the directive.

When questioned if the Ministry of External Affairs would take up the matter with the Austrian government, an MEA source rejected the idea, stating that the economist holds no official position. “Why give this so much attention? He is a loony. Holds no official position,” NDTV reported.

Jahn is the President of the Austrian Committee for NATO Membership of Ukraine, Austria, Bosnia, and Kosovo.

Amid criticism of his X post, an old tweet by the economist also went viral, in which he had extended support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the next PM of India. He had dubbed PM Modi “pro-Russia and pro-China” in older tweets.
