Florida man arrested after 30 years over 1993 murders of couple in front of three-year-old child: 'Hiding in plain sight'

Florida man arrested for 1993 execution-style murders of husband, wife following HSI New York, NYPD investigation

More than 30 years after a husband and wife were shot dead in a Bronx apartment in front of their three-year-old child, US authorities have arrested a Florida man accused of carrying out the killings during a planned drug robbery.62-year-old William Antonio Solis was arrested last month in Tampa, Florida by the New York Police Department.Federal prosecutors allege Solis took part in the execution-style murders of Luis Guerrero and his wife, Danis Sime, on June 21, 1993.Solis and two alleged accomplices targeted Guerrero, who authorities described as a narcotics supplier, during a planned robbery at an apartment in the Bronx. Guerrero was restrained while drugs were stolen from him. His wife was then allegedly lured into the apartment, where she too was tied up.Solis then shot both victims in the head while their three-year-old child was present.“The defendant in this case allegedly executed two New Yorkers in cold blood over 30 years ago, right in front of their three-year-old child,” said NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch.HSI New York Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael Alfonso said Solis had spent years “hiding in plain sight” far from New York. “As alleged, William Solis spent decades hiding in plain sight more than a thousand miles from where he viciously murdered the Guerreros in front of their young child,” Alfonso said.Solis lives in Tampa and has been charged with intentional killing while engaged in a narcotics conspiracy. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or death if convicted.
