Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has submitted his resignation to the Governor following the BJP’s decisive victory in the state elections. Despite securing a strong mandate with more than a two-thirds majority and leading the party to its third consecutive term in power, Sarma stepped down as part of the standard constitutional process before forming a new government. He is expected to soon stake claim to form the government again and will continue as the caretaker Chief Minister until the swearing-in ceremony takes place. This victory has further strengthened his political stature in the Northeast, and preparations for the formation of the new government are now underway.
