Sabang assembly election results 2026

Sabang assembly election results 2026

Sabang in Paschim Medinipur district is currently represented by Manas Ranjan Bhunia of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. In the 2021 Assembly election, he polled 1,12,098 votes and defeated BJP’s Amulya Maity, who secured 1,02,234 votes, giving him a winning margin of 9,864 votes (about 47 per cent vs 43 per cent vote share). Sabang is a predominantly rural constituency covering the entire Sabang block and parts of Pingla, with agriculture—especially paddy, betel leaf and vegetable cultivation—being the economic backbone. Key issues include input costs and price realisation for small farmers, irrigation reliability, improvement of rural roads and bridges, and demand for better government health and education facilities at the block and gram‑panchayat level.

Flooding and waterlogging in low‑lying areas during the heavy monsoon, alongside the need for more non‑farm jobs to curb distress migration, are recurrent local concerns flagged in electoral and district assessments. Politically, Sabang was a long‑time Congress bastion under Manas Bhunia, who has represented it multiple times since the 1980s; his switch to TMC and victory on the party’s ticket in 2017 and 2021 reflects a personalised yet stable shift towards Trinamool dominance. The seat falls under the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency, held by TMC MP Deepak Adhikari (Dev), aligning assembly and parliamentary representation in this belt.
