Ahead of vote counting in West Bengal, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has moved the Supreme Court of India challenging the Election Commission’s order to deploy central employees at counting tables. TMC had earlier approached the Calcutta High Court, but its plea was dismissed. The party has now filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court, arguing that the decision is beyond the Election Commission’s jurisdiction, arbitrary, and discriminatory as it applies only to West Bengal and not other states. The case will be heard today at 10:30 AM by a special bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi. TMC has also raised concerns that the presence of central personnel could affect transparency and create imbalance during vote counting. With counting day approaching, the legal battle has added further tension to the already charged political atmosphere in Bengal.
