Omalur election results 2026

Omalur Assembly constituency is located in Salem district of Tamil Nadu and forms part of the Salem Lok Sabha constituency. The seat has historically witnessed electoral contests between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and regional parties such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), reflecting the shifting alliance dynamics that often shape politics in western Tamil Nadu.In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,65,892 electors, with 2,27,295 valid votes polled. AIADMK candidate Vetrivel S won the seat with 89,169 votes, defeating DMK candidate Ammasi S, who secured 69,213 votes. The margin of victory stood at 19,956 votes, giving the ruling party a comfortable win in the constituency.Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Omalur had 2,27,342 electors, with 1,87,770 valid votes recorded. AIADMK candidate Krishnan C secured a decisive victory with 1,12,102 votes, defeating PMK candidate Tamizharasu A, who polled 65,558 votes. The winning margin of 46,544 votes reflected strong support for the AIADMK during that election cycle.Historically, the constituency has seen varied political outcomes. PMK candidate Tamizharasu A won the seat in 2006, while AIADMK’s Semmalai S secured victory in 2001. Earlier elections, including 1996, 1991 and 1989, also witnessed wins by candidates from the Tamil Maanila Congress and AIADMK, indicating that Omalur’s electoral results have often mirrored broader political shifts in Tamil Nadu.
