Country music icon David Allan Coe passes away at the age of 86

David Allan Coe, a legendary name in the country music genre and well known for songs like ‘You Never Even Called Me by My Name’ and ‘Take This Job and Shove It’, has passed away. He was 86 years old at the time of his demise.A report from Rolling Stone confirmed the news that he passed away on Wednesday, around 5:08 PM. He had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at the time, though the cause of his passing has not yet been revealed to the public. His representative also stated in the report that, “David is a musical treasure. Even in his years of declining health, David appreciated all of the fans.” His wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe also issued a statement and said, “One of the best singers, songwriters, and performers of our time [and] never to be forgotten.”

David Allen Coe was born on September 9, 1939, in Akron, Ohio. Known as one of the most famed, controversial, and popular names in the country music genre. Coe was regarded as a pioneer and was famously known for his contribution to the 1970s outlaw country movement.From a young age, Coe had a turbulent upbringing. At 9, he was sent to a reform school, and for the next two decades, he spent time in different correctional facilities. His journey in music began around 1967 after he was officially released. Following this, he officially moved to Nashville in order to pursue country music.After a lot of unsuccessful attempts to rise to fame, his song ‘Take This Job and Shove It’ garnered a lot of attention and reached the number 1 place on a lot of music charts. It also got him his only Grammy nomination to date.Throughout the years, he was known for using abusive and often racist terms in his songs, which led him to become a controversial figure in the industry. Some of his most popular songs include, but are not limited to, ‘Longhaired Redneck’, ‘The Ride’, ‘Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile’, and ‘She Used to Love Me a Lot’ to name a few.
