‘Hamza from Dhurandhar was way more challenging than from Padmaavat’

'Hamza from Dhurandhar was way more challenging for me than Khilji from Padmaavat,' Ranveer Singh told his business partner

Ranveer Singh is currently getting a lot of love for his portrayal of Hamza and Jaskirat in the ‘Dhurandhar’ franchise. However, the actor also left a lasting impression with his intense portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmaavat’, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In a recent conversation, Ranveer’s business partner and SuperYou co-founder Nikunj Biyani opened up about the sheer intensity of Ranveer’s performance, revealing that the role of Hamza pushed the actor even further than Khilji.Praising the film, Nikunj said in an interview with MensXP, “I saw Dhurandhar on the first day, first show for both the films. I loved it. ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’, for me, was the best film of all time. I enjoyed part one as well, but part two was something else. I didn’t want to get out of my seat even to pee. I was like, I won’t even blink—just look at him, it’s insane.”He also recalled a conversation with Ranveer about the demands of the role, sharing, “We were chatting with him once, and we asked him if he would do something as demanding as Khilji. He said, ‘This character (Hamza) has been way more challenging for me as an artist; it has taken so much more out of me. I had to go deep and give it 300 per cent; it has been very demanding.’ And when you see it, you’re like, what was this? He has proven he’s the GOAT. It’s a fact, he is insane.”Interestingly, when Ranveer had taken on Khilji in ‘Padmaavat’, he had gone to great lengths to embody the character, including isolating himself for 21 days and immersing himself in a dark mental space. The film went on to become a massive success, earning around ₹585 crore worldwide, while his performance was widely applauded. The ‘Dhurandhar’ franchise, directed by Aditya Dhar, has since become a major box office force. The story follows Hamza, an Indian agent who infiltrates Pakistan’s Lyari underworld and gradually climbs the ranks to dismantle terror networks targeting India. As a two-part saga, the franchise has crossed the Rs 3,000 crore mark globally. The first instalment, released in December 2025, collected around Rs 1,300 crore worldwide, while the sequel went even further, earning over Rs 1,700 crore globally. It also crossed Rs 1,000 crore in India alone, becoming the first Bollywood film to achieve that milestone. Even as the initial frenzy settles, the film continues to hold strong at the box office.
