Dwayne Johnson looks back at a beloved tattoo that took over 60 hours to make: 'Every marking tells a very personal story'

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is best known for his looks, his acting prowess on the big screen, and his bodybuilding. However, along with that, he is also best known for the ink that he has managed to get his body covered in over the years. In a recent social media post, the famed ‘Jumanji’ actor posted a throwback photo of one of his shoulder tattoos, recalling the experience and revealing that it took a lot of time and effort to get done.

“The art that is forever”, that is how the famed actor remembered his memories of his beloved shoulder tattoo in a recent post. Recalling getting his ‘Tatau’, a sacred Polynesian tattooing tradition, the star opened up about how every line means and represents something for him.Furthermore, he added, “Every symbol, every marking, tells a very personal story that’s a reflection of my gratitude for my ancestors and my life’s past, my inspired hope for life’s future, and the most important part of my life’s story – to live fully present, in the now.”

In the post, he also reflected on how long it took for the tattoo itself to come to fruition. He revealed that he and his tattoo artist talked for a very long time about the tattoo before even deciding to do something about it. He added, “My tattoo artist and I talked for hours, we definitely drank our kava 😉, we definitely prayed ~ then we went to work. 3 total sessions. 60+ hours. My tatau was complete.” He also added that, “Love and respect to the exceptionally talented Mr. Frédéric ‘Po’oino’ Yrondi, whose artistry is reflected in tattoos that, two decades on, continue to embody our culture, heritage, and stories that have helped to shape me, and that I’ll proudly carry forever.”The American-Canadian actor and professional wrestler has worked in the entertainment industry for decades now and has always proudly spoken out about his culture and traditions.
