Aamir Khan compares Arijit Singh to Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar and Sonu Nigam: ‘All are storytellers’

After reports of acclaimed singer Arijit Singh announcing his retirement from playback singing earlier this year, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan visited him at his home in Murshidabad and urged him not to step away from music.Speaking about the visit, Aamir called it an “amazing, lifetime experience” and said, “I was extremely happy after meeting him.”

‘We were shocked when we heard about retirement’

Aamir told Radio Nasha, “We were shocked, wondering if he would sing for us now,” referring to the retirement buzz around Arijit.He added that it was his idea to travel to Arijit’s home with composer Ram Sampath for recording sessions for Ek Din, a film co-produced by Aamir and starring his son Junaid Khan.Aamir recalled, “I called Arijit to ask whether we should come, and he said he would fulfil the commitment he made to us.”Describing the time spent together, Aamir said, “It was a magical four days.”He added, “Arijit is not just a great singer… he is also a storyteller. He tells stories through his songs.”

‘All legendary singers are storytellers’

Drawing comparisons with Indian music legends, Aamir said, “Rafi saab, Kishore da, Asha ji, Lata ji, and Sonu Nigam have all told stories through their singing. Arijit has that same quality.”He further said, “He is a really gifted and talented singer and storyteller,” and added, “He is an amazing human being who immerses himself in his work.”Aamir also shared, “We had so much fun even while we were working.”Aamir said, “I got to meet his father, wife and children. They are all very nice people, and so is his team.”
