Election Watch: Murshidabad Voting Mixes Peace & Tension, Naoda Booth Clash Under Heavy Security Live

Polling in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district presents a mixed picture of peaceful voting and localized tension during the first phase of elections. Officials report that in most of the 22 assembly constituencies of the region, voting is proceeding in a largely peaceful and orderly manner, with voters actively participating since early morning. However, incidents of disturbance were reported from the Naoda Assembly constituency, particularly at polling booths 9 and 10, where late-night clashes created temporary tension. According to ground inputs, the situation escalated into a scuffle involving local security personnel, with allegations of equipment and badge snatching during the confrontation. Authorities have since tightened security in the area and are reviewing the sequence of events. The political atmosphere in Murshidabad has also been influenced by the presence of independent candidate Humayun Kabir, who has been actively campaigning in the region after parting ways with the Trinamool Congress. His campaign has drawn attention in the constituency, which has remained politically sensitive in recent electoral cycles. Despite isolated incidents, voter turnout across Murshidabad continues to remain steady, with citizens lining up at polling stations from the early hours. Election officials have ensured enhanced security deployment and monitoring across sensitive booths to maintain order and transparency in the voting process. Authorities have reiterated that polling across the district is under strict surveillance, with law enforcement agencies actively managing sensitive areas. Overall, while the majority of polling stations are reporting peaceful conditions, isolated clashes in specific booths have added tension to an otherwise active and high-participation electoral environment in Murshidabad today.
