Offspring’ star Alicia Gardiner cleared of assault charges from 2024 protest with a fine of USD 500 - Report

Australian actor Alicia Gardiner recently made headlines after her arrest on alleged assault charges. The famed actress was suspected of assaulting and harming a woman while protesting at Parliament House in Melbourne. However, according to the latest updates, the court has officially dropped the assault charges against Gardiner. Here’s what we know about the case.

According to a recent news report by NewsWire, famed actress Alicia Gardiner, best known for her roles in ‘Offspring’, ‘The Clearing’, ‘Wolf Creek’, and ‘My Life Is Murder’, was arrested on assault charges. However, as per the latest court order, all charges against the actress have been dropped. She was, however, given an overall fine to pay to the court. She has been charged with a fine of USD 500 fine by magistrate Malcolm Thomas without conviction.Instead of assault charges, the actress was charged with refusing to leave and vacate the parliament premises after authorities strictly requested it.

When she was arrested and taken into custody, she was charged with assaulting a woman, specifically that she “grabbed and twisted the woman’s breast in the afternoon of May 7, 2024.” Additionally, it was alleged that the woman clashed directly with two guards serving duty at the legislative door. In court, the person whom the actress allegedly assaulted stated, “I had my hand on her and then I had the sharp pain.”The protest where the actress was arrested on assault charges was related to the pro-Palestinian protest in the public gallery of Victoria’s Parliament recently. At the time, authorities moved to clear out around 14 protestors present at the site.
