Marvel drops Man-Spider plot from ‘Brand New Day’: Report

Marvel removes Man-Spider plot from 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' ahead of release - Reports

Marvel Studios has reportedly dropped plans to use the Man-Spider mutation in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, stepping away from one of the darkest and most unsettling ideas in Spider-Man lore. A new report says producers decided not to move forward with the creature design due to concerns about how younger viewers and family audiences would respond. The reported choice points to a film that stays focused on Peter Parker’s emotional fallout after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, rather than turning him into a full arachnid monster.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ report details

According to The Cosmic Circus, the topic came up during a recent Discord Q&A hosted by Alex Perez, who answered fan questions about several Marvel projects, including ‘VisionQuest’, ‘Wolverine’, and ‘X-Men’. When asked whether ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ would feature a full Man-Spider transformation or only show Peter Parker becoming more aggressive, Perez said, “I have heard about the concept of Man-Spider, but certain producers have expressed concern about how family audiences will react to an 8-legged monster appearing in the movie.” He added, “So last I heard, they don’t want to do that.”

What does Man-Spider mean for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’?

For fans unfamiliar with the concept, Man-Spider is a mutated version of Spider-Man that turns Peter Parker into a monstrous arachnid creature. The form appeared in Marvel Comics and in the 1990s animated TV series, where Jim Cummings voiced the character. Because of that history, the idea of Peter transforming into a multi-limbed monster has remained one of the more debated rumored plot points tied to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’.The reported omission also suggests the new movie will lean harder into the emotional story left behind by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. That film ended with Doctor Strange’s spell erasing Peter Parker from the memories of everyone close to him. The official synopsis for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ says the hero now works in a world where “Peter Parker is no more,” while Spider-Man still protects New York City.Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, and Sadie Sink are all confirmed for the cast. The first trailer also teased Bruce Banner’s appearance and showed Peter’s tense interactions with MJ and Ned, who no longer recognize him. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ opens in theaters on July 31, 2026.
