Who is Riley Podleski? US journalist goes viral over claim America used ‘less than 10%’ of its military against Iran

An American media figure has gone viral after making bold claims about US military strength during a briefing on tensions with Iran.Riley Podleski, an American journalist and conservative media personality, said this week that the US used “less than 10%” of its combat power in operations against Iran. Her remarks came in an official video update published by the Department of War.Speaking as Pentagon Assistant Press Secretary in a War Department Weekly Sitrep video, Podleski said, “The new Iranian regime understood that a deal was far better than the fate that awaited them. Our warfighters made history with their overwhelming victory on the battlefield.” Her comments followed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between US and Iran. At an earlier Pentagon briefing last week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth also underscored the scale of US military capability, claiming forces had dismantled one of the world’s largest militaries while using only a fraction of their strength. “The world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism proved utterly incapable of defending itself, its people or its territory. We untied just a fraction of our strength, and Iran suffered a devastating military defeat,” he said. Podleski went further, crediting US President Donald Trump with unprecedented action. “We own their skies, wiped out their navy, destroyed their missile program and rendered their defense industrial base useless,” she said, adding that Trump “made history and has done what no other president had the courage to do before.”She also detailed a dramatic Easter weekend rescue mission. According to Podleski, an F-15 Strike Eagle was shot down over Iran on April 3. Within 48 hours, US forces launched two rescue missions involving over 170 aircraft. Describing the moment one crew member signalled for help, she said his first message was: “God is good.” She added, “Shot down on Good Friday. Hidden in a cave all Saturday and rescued on Sunday. Flown out of Iran as the sun was rising on Easter Sunday.”Alongside her government-facing role, Podleski is known for her work with conservative digital outlets. She has built a following through on-the-ground reporting and social media content, often covering protests, immigration debates and campus politics. Her reporting typically includes right-leaning viewpoints.
