Oracle layoffs push US-based NRI couple to return to India as 60-day visa deadline nears

Oracle layoffs push US-based NRI couple to return to India as 60-day visa deadline nears

An NRI couple living in the US is reportedly set to come back to India due to being victims of job loss; recently, there have been layoffs by Oracle Corporation. This move has highlighted the issue of visa restrictions and employment flexibility challenges faced by foreigners working in the US tech industry. As reported through a Reddit post by the wife, her husband was laid off from his position at Oracle in such a way that there will be a 60-day grace period from 11 April 2026. She herself has been laid off as far back as October 2025, with her having not found work ever since. Due to their lack of sponsorship through PERM or I-140, the only option left for the couple was to go back to India in July 2026.

NRI couple prepares for India return as Oracle layoffs trigger strict 60-day visa window

The husband was reportedly impacted during a wider Oracle restructuring exercise that affected thousands of employees globally. His 60-day grace period is now the key deadline shaping their next steps in the United States. The wife stated that her own layoff came months earlier, and she had been waiting for a shift to H4 status. That transition did not progress in time. The situation left both individuals without stable employment or clear visa continuation routes. The couple has indicated that they are now preparing for a relocation to India within the coming months. The expected timeline is around July 2026.They described the move as difficult but necessary. The focus has shifted away from staying in the United States to planning logistics for departure. There are practical steps involved, including travel arrangements, documentation closure, and financial planning.

Reddit users advise early job applications ahead of relocation to India

The wife also inquired about how returning professionals usually cope with the challenge of finding jobs after moving. She was curious about how much time it would take for them to find work in India after coming back from the United States. In response, some users expressed different experiences. One user recommended applying for jobs before reaching India. Meanwhile, another user advised taking some time to get settled before resuming their search.A recurring recommendation was to include an Indian mobile number on the resume to attract more recruiters. Another user highlighted that international experience is beneficial but not necessarily a guarantee of faster employment.

Indian job market shows mixed outcomes for returning US professionals

Based on the recruitment statistics, it seems that the recruitment process in India depends on industry, qualifications, and time. While some individuals get their positions immediately, others need up to months before getting hired. It is commonly reported that the experience in US firms is highly appreciated by potential employers. However, the competition level is intense, especially in the IT sector.
