An Indian restaurant in Frisco, Texas, was forced to shut down after a routine health inspection by officials found moldy food in the kitchen, Frisco Today reported. The inspections took place between March 15-28 and the officials said they will re-inspect Chalo India, the Indian restaurant in question, to determine whether it would be allowed to reopen. Another local eatery, Sweet Rice, was given a warning as gnats were found in a warewashing area, the report said. Frisco health inspections function on a demerit system: A score of 0 is considered perfect, and when the score exceeds 30, the establishment fails. At that time, an inspector may choose to close the business at their discretion. When the total exceeds 30, the food establishment fails. At that time, the health inspector may close a food establishment at their discretion. This decision is based on the nature of the violations, the food establishment’s history of compliance, and other risk factors.Chalo India was given a score of 46 after inspectors found moldy food and gnats in the inspection report. Sweet Rice was given a score of 8. “Restaurant Must Cease All Operations. Grocery Can Remain Open. Re-inspection Will Be Conducted And Fee Must Be Paid,” the inspectors wrote in their comments. They also said they noticed spoiled food with odor in freezers in the grocery area which were voluntarily discarded during the inspection. They said they found unlabeled meat and fish products and unlabeled bread products. The food manager was unavailable during the inspection, they noted. According to the data provided by the department, another restaurant which scored poorly in the inspection, was Rayalaseema Ruchulu. The inspectors said they discussed the complaints with the manager. The official record showed there was a reinspection in Chalo India in which they scored 18, a rank that allows them to function.
