NEW DELHI: Iran mocked the US defence secretary Pete Hegseth on Thursday over his threats on sending the Middle Eastern nation “to the stone age”.In a post on X from Hegseth that said, “Back to the Stone Age”, Iran gave sharp retort slamming him. “Stone Age? At a time when you were still in caves searching for fire, we were inscribing human rights on the Cyrus Cylinder. We endured the storm of Alexander and the Mongol invasions and remained; because Iran is not just a country, it is a civilization,” said the Iran embassy in South Africa on X. Meanwhile, X community had its own views on Hegseth’s post. Suggested community note claimed making direct threats a “war crime”. “It contains threats against humanity as per UN and international laws. It is war crime,” said one of the “Notes suggesting context to be shown with the post.”US has made this “stone ages” treat multiple times including Trump on Truth Social and his televised speech later. Iran has continuously mocked the US threats and claims on social media. “Find Trump’s history teacher. His idiot student hasn’t learned anything,” said the Iran embassy in South Africa. In another post, it shared a meme of a US soldier with a shark and a caption saying, “We did not feed them for a while. Come🦈”Other Iranian embassies have also took to social media to make fun of US and its leaders. For instance, Iran Embassy in UK also reponded to Hegseth saying, “Medieval rhetoric from a member of the Epstein class. It’s a shame for American society that someone like this has become their voice. Our stones answer you.”
