Update: Iran Assures India of Safety as Dozens of Ships Remain Stuck in Strait of Hormuz

In the ongoing Middle East conflict, the strategic Strait of Hormuz remains under Iranian control, raising global concerns over maritime security. Amid this tense backdrop, Iran has issued a crucial statement specifically addressing India. The Iranian Embassy in India confirmed that Indian vessels navigating the Strait are safe, reassuring that Indian personnel are in “secure hands.” Currently, more than 400 ships, including several Indian vessels, are delayed due to congestion in the Strait caused by ongoing military operations and heightened regional tensions. While India and other Asian nations, including China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, continue to face logistical delays, Iran emphasizes that no ship will be harmed. Recently, four Bangladeshi vessels were safely released, signaling potential easing for other stuck vessels. Experts note that while the safety of ships is assured, the heavy congestion could impact supply chains. For instance, where 15 ships previously arrived on schedule, now only three may navigate at a time, potentially affecting fuel and trade shipments. Indian authorities are coordinating closely with Iranian officials to ensure timely movement and minimize disruption. This statement highlights India’s diplomatic approach to securing its maritime and energy interests during a period of heightened conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. The ongoing situation underscores the delicate balance regional powers must maintain while ensuring the safety of commercial and strategic maritime traffic.
