Redditor devastated after losing last chance at H-1B lottery, gets trolled for ‘galling entitlement’

Redditor devastated after losing last chance at H-1B lottery, gets trolled for 'galling entitlement'

Redditor shares frustration after losing last chance at H-1B lottery, gets trolled.

A Redditor shared the feelings of losing the last chance at the H-1B lottery but got picked on by US-based commentators who made fun of the ‘entitlement’ of foreigners who think they have a right to stay in the US. The results of the first wage-based lottery were announcement through the weekends and it was wrapped up by April 1 as from April 1, the companies will be filing the petitions for the candidates who got selected. The Redditor was devastated; said the coworkers were crying as this was the last chance for the individual to stay in the US. “My H1B didn’t get picked again this year. This was my last chance, and I’m honestly devastated. It still doesn’t feel real. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but I’ve always worked hard and managed to get this far. Because of that, I always think of myself as a lucky person… but I guess not in this case,” the post read. “I don’t think I’ve ever cried like this before. I didn’t even know I was someone who could cry like this. What made it even harder was seeing my coworkers so genuinely upset, even crying for me. That honestly broke me.” “I’ve lived here for a long time, and this really feels like home. So yeah, I feel pretty lost right now. But at the end of the day, this was a lottery. There was only so much I could control (I’ll be honest, it’s hard not to feel bitter toward people who gamed the system. I really hope they face some consequences.) I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’m not letting this consume me and focusing on what I can control. I got this far, so I have to believe I’ll find a way forward again,” the person wrote. Many H-1B aspirants shared similar stories that they now have to leave the US, as they did not get selected in the FY 2027 lottery. The USCIS has announced the conclusion of the lottery but has not yet revealed the number of registrations they received, the number of selected candidates etc.

‘My sympathy for all Americans’

The Reddit post became a laughing stock on X as Right-wing handles mocked the ‘H-1B loss’ of people. “Y SYMPATHY is all for the Americans who are losing or are denied jobs due to these foreigners being granted working visas in MY COUNTRY. They are guests here and have no right to immigrate and have no reason to expect they will be able to do so if they came here on a student visa or other ‘temporary visa’. None. The entitlement in this post is galling. Read and weep,” one wrote, sharing the Reddit post.
