Priyanka Gandhi Slams Himanta Sarma, Alleges ‘One Family’ Control Over Assam Resources At Nazira Rally

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government while addressing an election rally in Nazira. She was campaigning for Leader of the Opposition and Congress candidate Debabrata Saikia.

Gandhi alleged that Assam’s resources were being exploited by a single family. She claimed that key state assets, including mines and land, were being transferred to industrialists.

References To Past Scams

She also raised concerns over past controversies, citing the Sarada, Smart City, and NC Hills cases.

Concerns Over Wages and Tribal Status

Addressing broader governance issues, Gandhi criticised the BJP-led government over tea garden workers’ wages, stating that promised increases have not been implemented.

She further pointed to ongoing demands from several tribal communities seeking Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Claims On Welfare And Political Pressure

Gandhi alleged that women were being pressured to attend political rallies under the threat of losing benefits from welfare schemes such as the Orunodoi poverty alleviation programme.

Remarks On Central Leadership

Commenting on the central government, Gandhi described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “influenced by the US” and referred to Chief Minister Sarma as being closely associated with him.
