Who is Solange Tremblay? Canadian flight attendant survives LaGuardia crash after being ejected 320 feet

Solange Tremblay, a veteran Canadian flight attendant with more than 25 years of experience, was severely injured when an Air Canada Express flight crashed at New York’s LaGuardia Airport last week. The crash killed both pilots and injured dozens of people, but Tremblay’s survival surprised many because of how she was found after the accident.Tremblay was working on Air Canada Jazz flight 8646, travelling from Montreal to New York with 72 passengers and four crew members on board when the aircraft collided with a Port Authority fire truck as it was landing. The collision occurred on the runway and the plane’s nose was destroyed on impact.

Witnesses and emergency workers were stunned when Tremblay was discovered more than 320 feet away from the wreckage, still strapped to her jump seat on the tarmac. Her daughter, Sarah Lépine, called her survival a “miracle.” Tremblay remained conscious during and after the crash.Tremblay suffered multiple serious injuries. Her legs were badly fractured and required metal plates, her spine was broken, and she lost a lot of her skin on her legs, which will need grafts. She also required a blood transfusion during initial treatment.Photos shared by her family show her in a hospital bed as she begins what is expected to be a long recovery. A GoFundMe campaign set up by her daughter has raised funds to support her medical care, surgery and rehabilitation costs. The crash at LaGuardia started an investigation by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Canadian authorities to determine how the fire truck came onto the runway as the plane was landing. The accident led to a temporary closure of the airport and raised questions about runway safety procedures. Both pilots, identified as Antoine Forest and Mackenzie Gunther, were killed in the crash.
