Government okays new rail line in Kutch to boost tourism

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet on Wednesday approved four major railway projects worth a total of Rs 12,328 crore, including a new rail line in Kutch to boost tourism by connecting the bordering Rann of Kutch, Harappan site Dholavira, Koteshwar temple, Narayan Sarovar and Lakhpat fort.The Cabinet also approved the restructuring and extension of the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme till March 2030, with a total outlay of Rs 7,332 crore. The government targets to bring another 50 lakh street vendor beneficiaries under the scheme.”The proposed new line will provide connectivity to far-fetched area of Kutch region. It will add 145 route km and 164 track km to the existing railway network in Gujarat…The new rail line will help in transportation of salt, cement, coal, clinker and bentonite,” govt said.
