The US House Foreign Affairs Committee of Democrats criticised US President Donald Trump for imposing a 50 per cent tariff on India over the Russian oil trade, saying that it “won’t stop” Moscow from continuing the Ukraine war.

The Democratic panel questioned the intent of the Trump administration, remarking that “it’s almost like it’s not about Ukraine at all.”

While suggesting that the US could have given Ukraine military aid to punish Putin, the Democratic panel alleged that Trump’s decision to focus solely on India with tariffs is hurting Americans and downgrading the US-India ties.

“Instead of imposing sanctions on China or others purchasing larger amounts of Russian oil, Trump’s singling out India with tariffs, hurting Americans & sabotaging the US-India relationship in the process. It’s almost like it’s not about Ukraine at all,” it said.
