This Bollywood actor’s career began with a bang, as his debut film was met with critical acclaim. He quickly rose to prominence, starring in several successful movies and featuring in some of the most iconic songs of the era. However, his promising trajectory came to a sudden halt following a shocking event. The actor was subsequently sentenced to jail; this brought his career to an abrupt end. We are talking about Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja.

Rise of Shiney Ahuja

Shiney’s journey started from the National School of Drama. According to the Mid-Day report, he attended various acting courses at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. Later, he joined the theatrical troupe ‘Tag’. Reportedly, the actor met Barry John and eventually enrolled in his acting school in Delhi. His film career began with a bang. His debut film, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ (2005), co-starring Kay Kay Menon and Chitrangda Singh, and directed by Sudhir Mishra, earned him rave reviews. His portrayal of a young man caught in the political turmoil of the 1970s was both powerful and nuanced. He followed this success with several critically acclaimed performances in films like ‘Gangster’ (2006), ‘Woh Lamhe’ (2006), and ‘Life in a… Metro’ (2007). In a short span, he worked with top directors and became a sought-after leading man, sharing screen space with A-list actresses like Kangana Ranaut and Shilpa Shetty.

A sudden and devastating downfall

Ahuja’s promising ascent came to a halt in June 2009. According to NDTV, Shiney was arrested and accused of r*ping his domestic help. Despite his repeated pleas of innocence, the media frenzy and public outrage were immense. After a long trial, in 2011, he was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison.According to the report, though the DNA tests confirmed the r*pe, in his bail application after the arrest, the actor stated that the incident happened consensually and that the r*pe charges were aimed at extortion.During the trial, the accuser later retracted her statement; however, the court upheld the conviction, stating that she had been under pressure to recant. The conviction was a death blow to his career. The industry, known for its unforgiving nature, distanced itself from him. He was replaced in films and endorsements, and his once-busy schedule became empty. He tried to make a comeback with ‘Welcome Back’ in 2015 but in a minor role. Go to Source
