Budget Watch: Rekha Gupta Unveils Big Infra Push in Assembly Budget Speech

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has presented her government’s budget in the Assembly, outlining a major push for infrastructure, urban development, and inclusive growth across the capital. Calling it one of the most comprehensive financial plans to date, she emphasized “triple engine, triple speed” governance to accelerate Delhi’s transformation. A significant allocation of ₹5,921 crore has been proposed for the Public Works Department to strengthen roads, connectivity, and transport systems. Additionally, ₹7,887 crore has been earmarked for urban development and housing, focusing on modern infrastructure and better living conditions. The government also announced ₹146 crore in financial assistance for NDMC and the Delhi Cantonment Board. Highlighting regional balance, the Chief Minister stressed that Delhi’s growth is incomplete without the development of trans-Yamuna areas. A budget of ₹300 crore has been allocated in the first phase to boost infrastructure and connectivity in these regions. Unauthorized colonies, often neglected in the past, will receive ₹800 crore for essential services such as roads, drainage, and street lighting. Rural pockets within Delhi have also been prioritized, with ₹787 crore proposed for village development initiatives. Furthermore, ₹960 crore has been set aside for the development department to ensure holistic growth across sectors. The budget reflects a vision to build a city that is not only modern on the surface but also structurally strong and inclusive at its core.
