A violent confrontation has erupted in Mathura following the murder of cow vigilante Chandrashekhar by alleged cow smugglers. The incident occurred around 4:00 AM, sparking immediate outrage as large crowds gathered to block the Delhi-Mathura-Agra highway. Protesters engaged in heavy stone-pelting, leaving several police personnel injured and many vehicles damaged. In response, police deployed tear gas and maintained a heavy presence to disperse the mob and restore order. While the driver of the Rajasthan-registered truck involved has been arrested, two to three accomplices remain at large, prompting the formation of specialized police teams. Senior officials and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have assured strict action against the culprits, urging citizens not to take the law into their own hands. Despite these assurances, the situation remains highly tense, with protesters retreating into side lanes and continuing sporadic attacks. Authorities are maintaining a state of high alert, utilizing protective gear and constant patrols to prevent further escalation while attempting to clear the significant traffic gridlock caused by the unrest.
