A major relief has come for India amid the ongoing LPG shortage. The tankerNanda Devi has safely reached India from theStrait of Hormuz, docking at theVadinar Port in Gujarat with47,000 metric tons of LPG. This follows the arrival of theShivalik tanker yesterday, which also carried a large shipment of LPG. The arrival of these vessels is expected to ease the domestic LPG shortage and ensure smoother distribution across the country. After docking, the LPG will be offloaded through pipelines and transported to supply points nationwide. The shortage had caused widespread difficulties, with hotels, restaurants, and households struggling to cook meals. Many establishments have resorted to traditional wood and coal stoves due to the unavailability of LPG cylinders. Cities like Muradabad, Jaipur, and Varanasi have witnessed restaurants and sweet shops switching to wood-fired stoves, increasing cooking costs and impacting customer service. The scarcity also caused long queues at gas agencies, reflecting the severe demand-supply gap. The Indian government’s efforts, combined with the safe arrival of these tankers, bring hope for a gradual resolution of the LPG crisis. The safe passage of these ships through the Strait of Hormuz amid regional tensions demonstrates strategic coordination and is a crucial step in stabilizing energy supplies. This development provides relief to millions of households and businesses that depend on LPG for daily cooking, signaling a positive turn in India’s energy security situation.
