Iran Protest: Protests Erupt Across Iran as US Strikes Near Kharg Island Raise Global Oil Concerns

As the war in the Middle East continues, Iran is not only facing military strikes but also witnessing large public demonstrations across several cities. Thousands of people have taken to the streets in support of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, waving Iranian flags and chanting slogans. Images from different cities show crowds gathering in large numbers, expressing solidarity with the country’s leadership during the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, on the 15th day of the war, Donald Trump, President of the United States, claimed that American forces carried out major strikes near Kharg Island, a strategically important location for Iran’s oil industry. Kharg Island lies about 55 kilometers from Bushehr Port and serves as one of the most critical hubs for Iran’s oil exports. Analysts say that if Kharg Island’s oil infrastructure were destroyed, it could severely impact Iran’s ability to export oil and potentially trigger a global energy crisis. Such a disruption could lead to a sharp increase in global oil prices and fuel inflation worldwide. Historically, the island has rarely been targeted. Even during the Iran Hostage Crisis in 1979 and the Tanker War in the 1980s, Kharg Island largely remained unharmed. Iran has warned that any attack on its oil and energy infrastructure will be met with retaliation against American energy facilities in the region. Experts also note that China could be directly affected if Kharg Island’s exports are disrupted, as a significant portion of Iranian oil shipped from the island is destined for Chinese markets.
