Prakash Jha confirms sequel to Ranbir Kapoor led ‘Rajneeti’

Prakash Jha confirms sequel to 'Ranbir Kapoor led 'Rajneeti' is in works: 'Constantly draw from epics and mythologies'

Filmmaker Prakash Jha confirmed he’s actively developing ‘Raajneeti 2’, drawing inspiration from Indian epics. He revealed that tackling subjects challenging the status quo has always been difficult, a challenge amplified by social media’s rapid dissemination of interpretations. Jha emphasized the need for responsible storytelling that fosters meaningful, balanced dialogue, a practice he’s employed since ‘Gangaajal’. Read on to know more in detail.

Prakash Jha recently shared that he is currently working on the sequel to the Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, and Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Raajneeti’. The filmmaker also expressed that making movies on subjects that challenge the status quo has always been tough. Let’s learn more about it in detail.

Prakash Jha says he is working on ‘Raajneeti 2’

In an interview with SCREEN, Prakash Jha was asked if he ever thought about making a movie based on mythology, since his projects carry an undercurrent of it. To this, he said, “I don’t really know. But I constantly draw from the epics and from our mythologies, be it the characters, the incidents, the drama, everything.”Jha added, “Even in the second part of ‘Raajneeti’, which is currently in pre-production and I’m actively working upon, a lot has been drawn from those sources.”

Prakash Jha shares if it’s difficult to work on projects that challenge the status quo

In the same conversation, Prakash Jha was asked if it has become difficult to deal with subjects that challenge the status quo, given that his projects often have political undertones. The filmmaker answered, “It has always been tough. But with the spread of social media, where people can express their ideology, or even their lack of one, so easily and within seconds, it has become harder to contain or control a conversation. “The director stated that before anyone expresses themselves fully, “multiple interpretations of what you’ve said begin to circulate. That’s a force one has to deal with.”Jha added that he had to negotiate even while making movies like ‘Gangaajal’ and ‘Raajneeti,’ and that practice continues. The filmmaker shared that one has to find stories even within difficult circumstances. He said, “The idea is to say what you want to say, say it responsibly, and say it in a way that the dialogue becomes meaningful and complete, because it shouldn’t remain one-sided.”
