‘Jana Nayagan’ censor row: Vijay’s film faces a fresh hurdle

'Jana Nayagan' censor row: Vijay’s film faces a fresh hurdle with the delay in the Revising Committee’s screening

Vijay’s highly anticipated final film, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ faces another setback as its Revising Committee screening was unexpectedly postponed. Originally slated for March 9, the review was cancelled due to a committee member’s illness, leaving the film’s certification and release date uncertain. This delay follows earlier objections regarding religious practices and army symbols.

‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Vijay, which has been long-awaited, continues to dominate headlines because of its unfinished censorship issues. Many doubts surround the film after objections were raised regarding some scenes. According to reports, the film was expected to be screened before the Revising Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification on March 9. Fans and industry observers hoped the review would finally bring clarity to the film’s certification status and help move the project closer to its theatrical release.

‘Jana Nayagan’ review gets delayed

However, the much-anticipated review did not take place as planned. As per India Today, the screening scheduled for Monday afternoon was reportedly cancelled at the last moment after a member of the Revising Committee fell ill. As a result, the censor review has now been postponed without a new date being announced. The sudden postponement of the process has made Vijay’s fans extremely sad, as they distinctly thought the film would soon be released.

Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ gets major legal relief; film heads to revising committee

Legal tussle behind the certification issue

The censor issues began emerging when ‘Jana Nayagan’ was screened by the Central Board of Film Certification in December 2025. The board apparently suggested some changes, but an ex-member of the original committee filed an official complaint. The objection reportedly concerned the way a few religious practices were shown and the alleged utilization of army symbols without any approval. Consequently, the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ordered the movie to be seen by a revising committee; certification was thus put on hold again. The production team then moved the Madras High Court to challenge the decision.

Vijay’s final film faces uncertain release

Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ holds special significance as Vijay has announced it as his final film before focusing fully on politics through his party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam. The film features a huge star cast, including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain. The film was earlier set to release on January 9, but due to the pending certification, it has not been released and still has no release timeframe. Go to Source
