Vadivukkarasi’s ‘Granny’ OTT release date

'Granny' OTT release date: When and where to watch Vadivukkarasi's horror drama

Vadivukkarasi’s horror drama ‘Granny’ is set for its digital premiere on Sun NXT from March 6, following a modest theatrical run. The film, a nighttime thriller exploring a village mystery and child murders, received mixed reviews for its lack of scares despite a strong premise. This OTT release aims to reach a wider audience seeking immersive horror experiences at home.

After a modest outing in cinemas, the horror drama ‘Granny’ is preparing for a new phase in its journey. The film will begin streaming on Sun NXT from March 6, giving it a chance to connect with a wider home audience. Marketed as an intense nighttime thriller led by veteran actor Vadivukkarasi, the OTT release is expected to bring renewed attention to the film, especially among viewers who enjoy watching horror in a more immersive, personal space.

‘Granny’ received mixed responses in theaters

‘Granny’ was released in theaters on January 30 but could not generate strong word of mouth. It opened to mixed and largely average reviews, and the box-office performance remained limited. The general consensus was that the premise was good enough for a horror film, but it lacked the chills and thrills expected of a good horror movie. There was much talk about the prevailing darkness and the varying standards of CGI effects, as well as the absence of a scare factor. With the theatrical run falling short, the digital premiere has now become crucial for the film’s reach.

‘Granny’—Cast’, crew, and technical team

Vijayakumaran, the director who previously made ‘Brahma.com,’ has written and directed ‘Granny.’ Singampuli, Dhileepan, Gajaraj, and Anand Nag, as well as GV Aparna, are all in prominent roles, in addition to Vadivukkarasi. The technical crew includes cinematographer A. Manikandan, music composer Chelliah Pandian, and editor MS Gopi, while PBK Mahendran handled the art direction, and Action Prakash choreographed the stunts. A major talking point was Vadivukkarasi playing a very aged character with a strong negative shade.

Story, horror tone, and reviews

Set across a single night in a village on the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border, the story follows two parallel tracks: a police investigation into a series of brutal child murders and a family that shelters a mysterious old woman in their ancestral house. As the night progresses, the link between the woman and the crime begins to unfold. The film attempts to blend a folk ghost tale with a crime thriller, but early reviews said the scares were not as effective as expected and the flashback portions added little impact. With its OTT arrival, the film now hopes to find appreciation among viewers who prefer simple, slow-burning rural horror dramas at home. Go to Source
