UAE issues fraud alert: Ministry warns against impersonation calls and data theft

UAE residents are cautioned about a rise in fraudulent calls in which impersonators pretend to be officials to steal personal data. The Interior Ministry has denied any link to suspicious numbers such as 70614213 and urges the public not to share sensitive information.

Residents across the UAE have been urged to remain alert after a surge in suspicious phone calls involving fraudsters posing as officials to obtain personal data. The Interior Ministry issued a warning on Sunday, distancing itself from the activity and advising the public not to engage with such communications.

Ministry denies link to suspicious number

In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry clarified that it has no connection to calls originating from the number 70614213 or any similar numbers.It firmly denied any association between itself, or its affiliated agencies, and communications made from this number. Officials confirmed that such calls are fraudulent attempts involving impersonation tactics and electronic fraud schemes designed to extract sensitive information.

Public urged not to share personal information

Residents have been advised not to respond to suspicious calls or engage with unknown callers. The ministry specifically warned against disclosing sensitive details, including:

  • National identity numbers
  • Identification card numbers, including QID numbers
  • Verification codes
  • Personal or banking details

Authorities reiterated that official bodies never request personal or banking information through phone calls, text messages, or unknown links.

Fraud sources being tracked

The ministry stated that the sources behind these fraudulent communications are being traced. Legal measures will be taken against those responsible.Officials stressed that individuals involved in impersonation and electronic fraud will face legal accountability.

Rely on official channels

Authorities called on the public to rely exclusively on official channels for accurate information.Residents were also urged to report any suspicious activity immediately through the designated reporting platforms. The ministry emphasised that prompt reporting will assist efforts to track and prosecute those behind the scam attempts.
